Bottles from the Gresigne forest and the Languedoc region of South West France are hard to come by, especially sealed ones. The term Gresigne is often used for any bottle with the merest hint of blue and as a bottle collecting friend of mine says ‘the Gresigne forest is very large, it stretches from Southern Spain, through France and then all the way to the Southern tip of Italy and even sometimes as far as the USA !!’

2.150 is a bottle that has recently joined my collection. There is an identical bottle in Willy Van den Bossche.  The seal is 3.3cm in diameter and depicts three fleurs de lys surmounted by a crown. These bottles were produced in a Royal glass house in the Gresigne area C. 1720 , the seal gave them a certain guarantee of capacity and quality. The bottle has a glass tipped pontil scar.

 2.150 Details.   Weight. 1070 gms -- Height. 30 cm -- Width. 15.7 cm -- Capacity. 2200 cc.

2.168 is a Gresigne wine cooler C. 1750 . I have not seen another one like it, it is very big and would almost certainly have had a handled  wicker basket for serving purposes. If you fill the bottle up to the lower part of the neck you have 2700cc of wine (3 pintes de Paris)., then if you add a good litre of ice and the weight of the bottle it all adds up to just under 5 Kilos. This would make this thin walled bottle somewhat fragile and unwieldy, hence the need for some sort of wicker protection with one handle or two.
There is of course another possibility and that is that this bottle is a piece of laboratory equipment. There are quite a few examples of early Gresigne laboratory equipment but none resembling this piece. On balance I would opt for the former explanation.

2.168 Length. 39cm. Width. 23.5cm. Weight. 1110gms. Capacity inside bottle. 4350cc  !!!!
Capacity of ice compartment. 1500cc !!!.

2.190 Is a square Gresigne case bottle C.1750 or earlier. It has a slightly tooled neck and a glass tipped pontil scar.
Height. 22cm.  Width. 6.7cm.  Weight. 340gms.  Capacity. 530cc.

2.196. An odd bottle C. 1810-30. Hand blown and with a ground pontil the neck shape is reminiscent of Gresigne type bottles. This obviously is not Gresigne but the Napoleonic Imperial Eagle guilt brass badge is intriguing. Some sort of Brandy ? or Liqueur ?
Height .25cm.  Width. 8.6cm.  Weight. 480gms.  Capacity. 985cc.
